I wanted to take a break, so I was looking for a movie to watch on Netflix, and “Scent of a Woman” starring Al Pacino came out as a recommendation. The reason why I hesitated to watch while feeling nostalgic is that it felt like too old movie, and American movies were not very touching to mebecause of distrust of Hollywood movie stars in a series of situations these days. If it’s weird to watch it, I can stop watching it on the way,but it’s my personality to get stuck in such a place and hesitate.
I think it’s a bothersome personality, but it can’t be helped. But I decided to watch this movie as if I was attracted to something. I remember Al Pacino’s famous performance, and his outstanding tango scene was enough to create a tango boom. I was a college student when this movie came out. I remember talking to my friend about the movie, and when I said the word “smell” instead of the word “scent”, my friend reprimanded me with weird eyes that it was unsophisticated. In the script in the movie, Alpacino also used the word “smell” but it certainly has no nuance.
It was such a popular movie and loved by Alpacino fans. It is a touching story that the meeting between a general who was brilliant but blinded by mistakeand a poor boy who entered a prestigious high school as a scholarship student changed their fate. The boy tries to stop the old man who loses his hope for life to commit suicide with a pistol. And Al Pacino helps the boy, who is caught up in an incident that happened at school, is in a tight spot,and is forced out of school, with a wonderful speech. Although he is blind, he mesmerizes and impresses people around himwith his confident posture, wit, and humor. And Al Pacino was showing what adults should have by accurately telling good and bad.
As I get older, watching old movies changes the scene I watch. It reminded me that there is not only a wonderful tango,but also a justification that I have forgotten and a pure soul to protect. To this extent, overlooking evil deeds will eventually lead to them twice or thrice, and this will become a matter of course. And it was telling that it was not easy for the conscience and soul that had been abandoned once to return to its original place.
Therefore, it was a movie that showedthat it is education and the responsibility of adults to teach hat there are times when such conscience and soul must be protected. Society has changed, civilization has changed, and functional and rationality have evolved dramatically. However, it is thought that our human souls have not evolved or changed much. This is because it seems that education is the only way to teach people to adapt to social changes and adapt their values to the times. If you don’t, your life will be in trouble. But these days, I think it’s actually the opposite. At the end of January, I said with an acquaintance,
“This winter in Sapporo, it doesn’t snow much,the temperature is high, and the snow melts on the sidewalk, and it’s already spring.” And in February, a city with a lot of snow became a white world. It reminded me of the phrase “to adjust the balance of accounts.” Even if bad things happen, good things happen, which may also be included in these words. Even if it’s hard, we have to live diligently. And today, while making cheese scones, I’m continuing my own resistance again.
