I love the genre of cafes so much. It may sound strange, but when I was young, I think I was more desperate for cafes than I am now in middle age. There was an unknown throbbing when I went to cafes, and I felt like I could find something. It was good to find such new joy in cafes.
There were cafes where I could feel the culture, and there were cafes where I could listen to music from around the world that I didn’t know, so I could get a fresh stimulus. It was also a cafe that comforted me when I was feeling down. Seeing many people in the cafe, I felt a living atmosphere, loneliness was somewhat alleviated, and I was comforted in ordinary small talk with the cafe owner. The meaning of the cafe was that even if I could not find a solution to my problems, even being in a space was comforting to me.
There are now many cafes with stylish designs that offer drinks and desserts in franchise style from large companies. Freshly ground and freshly roasted coffee” is advertised on cafe walls, stands, and signs. It’s a cafe with a small chair and a small table, and it feels like it’s a secret suggestion that you shouldn’t talk about a little complicated and confidential stories.
Of course, now that our lifestyle has changed, if I talk about the old style, I’ll be said that it’s old-fashioned, anachronistic. Secret stories can be done through DM, and awkward stories can be better for both of us to do them on mobile phones or SNS without looking at each other. That’s why you might think the current situation of cafe style is natural.
Maybe the function of the cafe, where you can laugh with a little noise while talking happily, has decreased. People who laugh out loud have become bothersome people. This is because the sound of laughter from such a narrow and close distance can be really annoying. Some people may say that there are bigger cafes in the suburbs than in the city center.
However, I personally think that cafes should be in everyday life. In fact, I know sadly that there are not many people who can stand by me in terms of my dogmatic (laughs) cafe style right now. Various factors are overflowing that the lifestyle has changed, the functions of cafes have changed, land prices are high, and the population has decreased. That may remind me of the cafes I’ve known for a long time. I remember a lot old-fashioned but warm cafes where I could talk and laugh with my friends, full of coffee scent with hand drip, enjoy meals.It is not a space where people can’t talk because there are people sitting next to each other, but a large cafe with a table at a distance is good. It doesn’t have to be stylish, but I like the cafe that has a warm atmosphere and relieves fatigue for a while with good music.
